This shapefile was created for the purpose of easily identifying port-owned properties.
<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Port parcels have been created from port-owned tax parcels by encompassing one or more contiguous tax parcels. Some tax parcels are divided into more than one port parcel. New port parcels are assigned a consecutive number from the first port parcel number one (1). Port parcels that are divided maintain their original number followed by consecutive letters beginning with "A". Numbers assigned to port parcels that have been sold or folded into other existing port parcels are no longer used. Port-owned tax parcels stranded by right-of-way, or otherwise have no use and/or value are not assigned a port parcel number. However, these tax parcels are reflected in the shapefile. Port parcels adjacent to water bodies typically follow the upland boundary rather than the tax parcel boundary. Port-owned tax parcels covered by water are typically captured in separate port parcels.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

Using autoCAD, developed an object table to include attributes for the port parcel data. Imported Pierce County tax parcel layer, and using the existing port parcel data layer adjusted and created new boundaries to align with port-owned tax parcels. Adjusted line boundaries along some water bodies to follow the shoreline as shown on Esri World Imagery. All attribute fields were deleted with the exception of the port parcel ID number. Some existing port parcels were combined with larger adjacent port parcels. New port parcels numbers were assigned to existing, yet previously unidentified port-owned tax parcels. Existing right-of-way was removed from the port parcel layer. Port Parcel 21, the Blair Waterway, was extended to include all port-owned portions of the waterway. Port parcel 1B was modified to include Piers 23, 24 and 25. Once the edits were complete, the data was exported into a shapefile. The port parcel object table was included in export.

Port Ownership Log was used to create the Port Parcel Table. Information was removed except for port parcel ID number and associated port parcel "common name". Common names include formerly existing port parcels that were combined with larger adjacent port parcels. The port parcel ID numbering system was updated to reflect new current port practice. Information was verified with the Real Estate Department.

Combined port parcels with multiple pieces into multipart polygons. Fixed a few minor topology errors. Imported shapefile into SDE Geodatabase and created a relationship class to the PortParcelNames table which contains the common name(s) for the port parcels.
